This term in Science we are looking at the Solar System. Today we concentrated on the Sun ☀️ and it’s properties. We enjoyed going outside and exploring shadows- drawing around each other’s!

In the Nook we like to talk a lot about how we are feeling, exploring our emotions, anger and learning a lot about ourselves and are autism as well. We have created some posters about our autism, the positive traits we have because if it , our ‘super powers’ and also the challenges we might face because of it too. A really open and honest piece of work from the boys and very proud of all of them. Recognising our strengths and weaknesses can be tricky and we all tried our best!
Computing this summer term. This term we are looking at coding, programming and de-bugging using our bee-bots. The boys made a great start and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the activities!

Happy Easter 2019 everyone! We have been busy decorating our tea cup and saucer plant pots for Easter gifts this year. Have a lovely break!
Ancient Egypt. As part of our topic on Ancient Egypt today we have mummified our own bodies! (Puppets). We followed the process step by step and produced some interesting mummies.
Internet safety. We have been learning how to stay safe on the internet, how to recognise trusted websites, how to keep information private and not to talk to strangers. We have all signed a user agreement and wil, try our best to keep safe.

Science experiment number 5! Making perfume. Exploring different essential oils and creating their own perfumes. Classroom smells lovely’s!
Science experiment number 4! Making Neurons. We looked at the structure and features of neurons and created our own using pipe cleaners, attaching our earliest or favourite memories!

Monday 11th March~ start of Science Week! Today in the Nook we looked at Static Electricity. The pupils carried out the ‘Matilda’s floating feat’ activity. Creating static charges to pick up their newts!
Tuesday 5th March 2019. Pancake day! The class enjoyed pancakes, waffles and crumpets! Yummy!
5-2-19. PE today was circuits! the pupils had a mixture of activites; push ups, hurdles, jumping, speed bouncing, throwing, running and sit-ups- well done everyone!
PE, this week we enjoyed using the sports Wheelchairs to practice new skills. We had to learn how to turn and stop safely. We raced in them and played football and tag!

Christmas Dinner in the Nook! We celebrated the end of 2018 with a Christmas Dinner in the Nook- Merry Christmas everyone!
Hedgehog homes and tracking prints! This week we tried to see if we had any hedgehog visitors overnight! Sadly- we did not- but we had fun making a little home for them!
WW1 Trench Model making in Art!
Tuesday 4th December 2018. This term we are studying WW1. We took a trip to the Imperial War Museum in London to explore and help our understanding of WW1. We saw the trenches, machines, transport, uniforms, weapons and more!
Bubble Madness! A new bubble machine in the Nook means lots of sensory fun outside!
D&T, living skills and cooking! Today we made ‘pizza wheels’ and banana milkshakes! Collecting equipment, making sure we had the ingredients needed and following step by step instructions, yummy!
ICT. We tried coding this week by using the Lego programme- ‘WeDo’. Oguz had to build a Lego robot model following the instructions carefully and then programming it using code to move. Well done Oguz!

Remembrance Celebration. This week we have looked at WW1 as part of our new topic and Remembrance Day too.
November 2018. Gardening time! This week we have been organising the plant beds in our playground. We de-weeded and tidied up before planting onions, garlic and a variety of new flowers. Fingers crossed we see the fruits of our labour in Springtime 2019!
Sweep! As part of this years whole school literacy project we have been working on ‘Sweep’ by Louise Grieg. In the Nook this week we have created a 3D diarama of the character, Ed, in his town, amongst the leaves he has been sweeping through and creating havoc with! We also dressed as Ed to get into character too!
Film Club!!!!!! End of term film club!
D&T- making cupcakes!!!! Last week of Autumn a term 1- exploring cooking skills, working independently and following a list of instructions.
Messy Play!!!! Sometimes to help us relax and to regulate ourselves we can do some messy play too!!!
PE. This term in PE we have been working on; agility, balance, co-ordination, working with equipment and in pairs too. Oguz has worked really hard and has managed to perfect his "tuck jump" at last!
D&T. This week we made Pizzas in our D&T lesson. We designed our pizzas beforehand, chose our ingredients and then had a lot of fun tasting new food and making the pizzas! Yum!
Swing time! We love our swing in the Nook, we can use it at play times and also for sensory breaks too!
Promoting independence. In the Nook we know that some pupils find working independently a challenge and learning new skills can be a challenge too. This week Oguz has learnt to tie his shoe laces for the first time and is now doing so consistently. He is also working independently too- following clear steps and using his help card if things get too tricky, well done Oguz, what fantastic achievements!
Spread the Happiness "Buy a book Day". Each pupil at Waterside was able to choose a book of their choice and Mr Griffiths purchased them as part of our Spread the Happiness Day!
Mindfulness. In the Nook we enjoy our mindfulness sessions. Relaxing our bodies and relaxing our minds. Mindfulness helps us with our anxiety and how to manage our breathing to relax our bodies- especially when we are stressed or worried.

Today we celebrated chocolate milkshake day as part of our Spread the Happiness scheme! We chose three different brands of milkshake and had a fun time taste testing.
