For the start of the Summer Term, Nurture are learning about Minibeasts. We will basing our English lessons on a wonderful story, 'Caterpillar Shoes'. The children will be using drama to help them recount the story, they will be writing character descriptions and creating Fact Files for different Minibeasts. We will be learning about Minibeasts including their lifecycles and habitats.

It is also the time of year when the Nurture garden needs lots of work. This year we are growing potatoes, green beans, sunflowers and lots of herbs. Hopefully, our plants will thrive and the children will get to use some of our produce in a meal.

We will be continuing our yoga practice and our 'Daily Mile'. the children are becoming more focused and fitter all the time.

Caterpillar Shoes

A wonderful story about a kindly caterpillar who decides to give his beloved shoes away to his woodland friends before turning into a beautiful butterfly.

Handa's Surprise

This half term we have been reading 'Handa's Surprise'. In the story, Handa decides to take seven pieces of delicious fruit to her friend, Akeyo, who lives in the neighbouring village. But as Handa wonders, I wonder what fruit Akeyo will like best?, a series of sneaky animals steal something from Handa's basket, which she's carrying on her head... When Handa reaches Akeyo she has a big surprise.

We will be learning about Africa, where it is situated geographically and some of its countries, for example, Kenya. The children will be exploring some of the delicious fruits from the story and will be writing their thoughts on these. They will also be creating recounts of Handa's journey as well as creating their own story, based on the book but set in London.

In Maths Mastery, Ms Ryan continues to focus on addition and subtraction with the younger children, whilst Mr Singh and Mr Warren look at key Year 6 concepts such as symmetry, decimals and percentages.

The children will continue to develop their social skills during Enrichment sessions with a focus on cooperation and friendship. They will also be taking part in weekly Yoga and Guided Meditation classes, these have proved a real treat for everyone!

Autumn Term in Nurture

This half term in Nurture the children will be learning about Florence Nightingale. We will be writing reports and thinking about the difference between nursing now and in the past. I am hoping to take the children to The Florence Nightingale Museum on the Southbank.

They will be developing their understanding of Place Value in Maths. Some of our Nurture children will be learning their Number Bonds, whilst others will be continuing to learn their Times Tables. I have attached some links that children may enjoy to develop these Maths skills.
