Welcome to Cedar

2024-2025

A warm welcome to all of our new pupils and their families, and of course welcome back to our continuing pupils in Waterside.

My name is Miss Sutton. I'm both honoured and excited to be your child's trainee teacher this year and to have a classroom for the first time. My aim is to make learning fun and interesting, and to help your child grow and to feel more confident as the year goes on.

Myself and Miss Stafrace are looking forward to working together with you to support your child’s education and to make this a successful, happy and fun year for everyone!

In Cedar class, we have sticker charts for each day of the week. The children  with the most stickers by the end of the week will win a prize from our special prize box! Stickers are rewarded for positive behaviour, being caring and for hard work. We cannot wait to see how many stickers we will be handing out each week!

We have a thrilling year ahead of us, I cannot wait to see what this year brings.

If you have any queries or concerns please contact myself or the team via the office: 0208 3177 569

On this page, you will find information about what your child is learning in the upcoming weeks. I will be updating the page periodically, with pictures of our superheroes and their adventures in Cedar.

English: Literacy Tree

Our new book is called the Ever Changing Earth by Grahme Barker-Smith. This fantastic story is about a small boy who imagines life on earth when the dinosaurs ruled. What will happen when the asteroid falls? Will the young small boy's world change forever?

Maths No Problem:

The children are working at various stages and paces on different concepts.

Some of the Autumn term concepts include: money, numbers to 40 and

Science: living things and their habitats

The children will be exploring the asexual and sexual reproduction. This involves us dissecting flowers and predicting how these plants are reproduced. Alongside this we will be using our artistic skills to illustrate our findings.

As we move further into the term we will be analysing life cycles of plants and various animal species.

Computing: Computing systems & networks - systems and searching

This term we are looking at computer systems within our world and how these computer systems help us day in and day out. Furthermore, we will be experimenting and investigating various search engines. What is the best search engine? How does Google know exactly what I am looking for? Hopefully these questions will have an answer by the end of term!

History: Dinosaurs and their extinction

This term we are delving into the dino world! We will be exploring the history of dino extinction and how fossils play an important part of discovery. Using our prior knowledge of dinosaurs we will become paleontologists ourselves - using investigations and our amazing art skills to bring the dinosaurs back to life.

PSHE: Being me in my world

The children will learn to explain why their behaviour can impact other people in class. They will also compare their own and their friends choices are better than others

PE: Invasion games and multi skills

During this term the children will be playing various sports that require ‘invasion techniques’, such as Hockey and Netball.  The children will be working on their general fitness, multiskills and friendly competition.

Art: Monet and Van Gogh

This term we will be exploring the works of the famous artists Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. We will be using a range of techniques and materials to try and recreate some of their most famous pieces.
